I've been experimenting with different ways to create rustic crucifixes; cast, different kinds of wire, etc. These are both made from wire.
This first one is argentium silver (which is a kind of sterling silver) in which I cut two arms and a centerpiece, from 12G wire, then fused them. Once that was done, hammer textured it, then oxidized it with some liver or sulfur. I quite like how this turned out, except it needs a larger gauge wire.
This next one is made from copper. Copper doesn't fuse like argentium does, so it's got to be soldered. I used a heavier gauge wire with this one and prefer the result. It's difficult, however, to avoid the solder line where the arms are soldered on, so I prefer sawing it from sheet stock, which is what I'll do moving forward.
Maybe I'll do another one in brass, and possibly one in cast silver next.
