Sunshine Cloth
The polishing cloth I recommend for keeping jewelry bright
A Sunshine Cloth is a treated polishing cloth, used dry with no water, liquid polish, or dip required. It's an easy way to keep metal jewelry, including the Argentium and sterling silver, brass, and copper pieces I make, looking its best between wears.
What it is
The cloth has two sides. One is impregnated with a fine jeweler's rouge that lifts tarnish and light oxidation off metal. The other is a clean buffing cloth that brings up the shine once the tarnish is gone. Both sides stay usable for a long time before the cloth wears out.
How to use it
- Rub gently with the treated side until the tarnish lifts. Follow the direction of any brushed or hammered texture rather than rubbing in circles.
- Buff with the plain side to bring up the shine.
- Fold the cloth back into its sealed bag between uses. Leaving it exposed to air wears it out faster.
What to avoid
- Don't use it on pearls, opals, turquoise, or other soft or porous stones. It's made for metal, and it can dull or damage stones like these.
- Don't wash or wet the cloth. Washing strips out the polishing compound that makes it work.
- Once it turns black and stops lifting tarnish, replace it. It's an inexpensive part to swap out.
